Tho catalogue comprised mainly crutchings and oddments, but there wero fow super lines of crutchings offered,. as in the ' earlier sales. Owing to the withdrawal of Japanese orders there was a considerable drop in crutching values to tho extent of about 2d. per lb. For skins, hides, and tallow the high rates ruling. lately wero maintained. Some of Messrs. Dalgety and Oo.'e realisations were as follows:—Crutchings, 113 - W. G. Adkin (Levin), W. T. With; au almost total 'absence of competition from Japan for orutchings, prices for these wools eased considerably, as comparod with last sale. Superior crutchings ehowed a decline of fuly,lM. per,-lb., medium-, crurtcliings. were fully 2d. per lb. below prioes ruling last sale. Seedy and inferior, crutchings sold at prices rullng'from 3d. to Id. lowor than last month. C&osßbred fleeco showed a decline'of Id. per lb. as compared with last sale. Hides -were in keen demand at last sale'B prices, cows being occasionally id. to 3d. higher. Tallow was firm. •

. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., report that the offering of sheepskins wa6 a good representative one, and prioes compared with last sale may bo quoted fully firm. The hide market was a little firmer, except in the case of. calfskins, which showed a slight falling off, compared with previous rates.. For tallow in casks and tins late rates were fully maintained. Some 2600 bales of wool were catalogued in all, mostly orutchings. Thero wa3 also a small supply of crossbred., aid lambs' wool. Tho selection was by no means a .good one, many parcels bearing evidence of seed. Although most of the usual buyers were represented, there was an absence of Japaueso orders for crutchings, with tho result that, values showed a considerable decline on last'sales held about seven, weeks ago. The prices realised, confirm the drop in values established in the South Island sales during, the last week or two. A uumbcr of lots were passed in at bids wh'ioh were not considered markot value.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having offered a large catalogue of wool, comprising of some 250 bales crutchings and fleece wool. The absence of orders from Japan was greatly, felt, as the prices for crutchings ?were quite twopence lower than tho high prices obtained' at last sale, 'with:the result that.a large quantity, of the wool was passed in. Skins were keenly sought after, and showed 1 an increase of Id. to Jd. per lb., some super halfbreds realising 121 d. per lb Ox hides were on a>. par with last- sale, while cow hides word about 3-Bd. dearer. Calf-skins did not reach tho high price of 14£ d., the top line realising 13$ d. Tallow prices were well maintained, and competition was keen for .tins well as casks. Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report keen competition for skins and hides at prices equal to last ealcs, except for, inferior lots. In tho absence of orders from Japan, crutchings were lower by 3d. to 4d. per lb. for good lots,, with practically no demand for seedy lots. Fleece, wool sold at about recent rates; Messrs. Levin and Co. report strong competition for-shoepskins, the market being Arm. Best lines advanced Jd. Inferior lines were easier. Ox and calfskins were unchanged. Other lines of hides advanced Jd. to 3d. Tallow was firm. on their crutching sale, the firm state that they nil ere (I 491 bales of wool. Prices showed a general decline of 2d. per pound, as compared with last sale values. Japan- . i -

oso .competition, was entirely missing, and this, combined -with the fact that yesterday's ottering was mostly seedy and heavier in condition than the wool sold earlier in the season, accounts for tho decline. The uncertainty of-what course tho British Government will take ill regard to the forthcoming season's clip did not improve matters. The sale was held —as recent sales have been —under an indefinite prompt, but it is anticipated that the wool will be cleared within one month. Tho next sale of crutchings will bo held on October 13. ' The rango of prices was a-s follows:— Wool.—Crossbred, medium-coarse, lid. to 15Jd.; pieces and bellies, sd. to 7id.; locks and stained, pieces, 3d. to 63d.; crutchings, super, llid. to 12d.; crutchings, medium to good, 9Jd. to llid.; crutchings, seedy and inferior, 3d. to 9d.; lambs, 6Jd. to Uid.j dead, 83d.' lo 14d.
