A WISE CHOICE

The directors' of. the. Bank of New Zealand yesterday filled the vacancy on tho Board, caused by the death of Me.. Martin Kennedy, by- the appointment of Me. 11. W. Kane. The choice is a wise one; Me. Kane is a banker of recognised capacity of many years' standing, and was for a period one of the nominee directors of the Government on the Board of the Bank of New Zealand. In that capacity he rendered valuable service and general surprise was expressed at the .failure of the Government to. secure the benefit of his experienced judgment for a further term. Political v conr sid.erations probably were a factor in deciding the matter, and the Bank certainly did not benefit by the change then made. Now, however, vMu. Kane's services have again been secured, and at a very opportune time. By the death of Me. Maetin- Kennedy, the shareholders lost a representative who had very ably safeguarded their interests over a long period of years, and who had also rendered the Bank good service as a director. His removal materially weakened the Board, and the additional, fact of flie absence of tlie chairman of directors from.. New- Zealand. jn?t now rendered it most desirable-that-art able and experienced banker should' be chosen to -fill the vacant"place. The shareholders, we have no doubt; will be well pleased with the choice made —a choice which in duo course will., come before them - for their approval.
