Customs duties collected at the port-of Wellington yesterday amounted to £<038 12s. sct. HIDE AND 'SKIN SAI/E. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Palmerston North, report' having held a Bpecial crutching rale in conjunction iv.itli their monthly 1 skin' and ludo sale, etc., on Friday. "Tho crotohing sale," the firm report, "comprised about ICO bales, also a. largo quantity of fadges and bags. etc. Owing to tho absence of any demand from Japanese houses, ■ prices for crutohings, in sympathy with other leading markets in tho Dominion, showed a considerable decline as compared with rates ruling at 'first crutching sales. Although it is Tory difficult to forecast the future market for erutchings, it is. the'general opinion that this class of -wool will not again reach the-exceptionally lligh level ruling earlier in the .season, ; and'rather than hold on and risk the market falling lower, we
thought it advisable in clicnts* interests to accopt prices offered. Skins, hfclos, and tnllow Bold -well up to laßt sale rates, and we cleared the whole of pur catalogue at very satisfactory prices.
