FIVE NEW FRENCH DREADNOUGHTS
A POWERFUL FLEET Auitr&lian-Naw Zealand Cable Association. Paris,. August 27. Five now French Dreadnoughts have been completed since the commencement of tho war. Thoy now form a powerful homogeneous fleet. (Tho French battleships—Benin, Flandre, Gascogno, Languedoc, and Normandie—are of 24,830 tons displacement, and are armed with twelve guns of 13.4-inch calibre, firing shells of ' 1332 pounds weight. The ships carry also twenty-four o.C-inch Runs.] UNITED STATES NAVY BIG BUILDING PROGRAMME TO BE "RUSHED." Washington, August 27. Mr. J. Daniels' (Secretary ' for the Navy), in an interview, said that he proposed to rush the navy programmes, and hoped that 'within six months 106 vessels would bo under construction. Ha might bring tho total outlay to 650 million dollars. Ho was confident that America would havo the sccond navy of the world.
