SUNDAY-SCHOOL UNION

TEACHERS' TJIAINING CLASSES. Another of the series of teachers' training classes for suburban teachers was given on Saturday evening in the I'etone Presbyterian Church. Mr. George Tiller gave an address on the primary department, touching on all the essentials necessary to properly leach children under eight yoars old. Mr. Tiller is' convinced that the Archibald system is tlio best in tho interests of the school, as it supplies a staff of well-trained teachers for tbe main school. It is recognised that there may be difficulties in the way of initiating' tbe Archibald system in many schools, so Mr. Tiller showed how primary classes were conducted before tlio visit of Mr. Archibald. The teaching is done by one teacher, who has several helpers to assist in looking after the children, and marking rolls and visiting absentees. Mr. Tiller would have good hymns and as much marching as can be arranged for in whatever space is available. Each Sunday thero should bo a nature study in addition to tho ordinary lesson. As an illustration of a nature study, Miss Lines repeated a study on "Rabbite" she bad given in Mr. Tiller's class in Taranaki Street School. Mr. Tiller then showed how easy it was to illustrate lessons on the blackboard even although the teacher knew little of drawing, After the lecture the Petone ladies disv pensed supper. The two remaining lectures are to b» given by Mr. J. Caughley. M.A.,' and Mr. T.H. Gill, M.A., LL.B.
