Chrlstchurch, August 25. ! It is now reported .that another 9000 sacks of wheat is to be shipped next month. This outlet has created 'a little more demand for wheat. Tuscan is'some, whet flrmw, and -prime quality is worth up to 4s. 7d. at country stations. Pota. toes are firmer, as farmerß prefer to wait for £7 next month, rather than to sell fot less for immediate delivery, and conse. quently offerings are limited, although sales were made this week, at '£6 10s. at country stations. The lowest price that will now be accepted for immediate deliv. ery is £6 15s. Orders from Auckland are now coming forward more freely.

•,irONEl r . MARKET. :' lie Bank of England discount Tato was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4J per cent., on January 22 it w reduced to 4 por cent., and on January 28 3 ner cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised' to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the "rate was reduced to 6 per cent.. on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., on July 13, 1916, it was raised to 6 per cent. OPEN MARKET BATES. The open market discount rate for three months bills is sjj per cent., as compared with 5J per cent, last week, and 4! to 5 per cont. la6t year. Short loans are quoted at 43 per cent., as again 4j per cent, last week, and 4 3-8 per cent, last year. THE METAL MARKETS. Copper—Spot,. £109 ss. per ton; throo months. £107 10s.; electrolytic, £129.
