SAILORS' FRIENDS

ANNIVERSARY MEETING. The anniversary meeting of the Sailors' Friend Society was held in tho Sailors' Mission Hall last evening;. Tho lion. Dr. R. M'Nab, Minister of Marine, presided, and among othcre, present were: Tho Hon. James Allen (Minister of Defence), the Hon. J. G. W. Aitlcen, JM.U.C., Mr. G. Allport (Secretory of Marine), and Mr. James Monro. Thoro was a good attendance, and during the evening a number of musical and elocutionary item's were provided.

On the motion of tho Hon. James Allen, the mooting resolved to commend the. work of the mission to the support of the public. Mr. Allen spolse in terni3 oT praise of the work or tho mission, ami said that it well merited the support of tlio people of the City. Mr. Allport. moved: ''That this meeting regrets that Mrs. Williams,' who donated this building, is unable, through ill-health, to be present tonight, but rejoices in the fact that she is still wi'.h us and able to lake apart in tho good work which has been so helpful to the thousands of seamen wlio visit the port." Mr. Allport said that tho hall Mrs. W'iJlianis had given had boon an untold biossiiig to thousands of sailors. It must be a great comfort to the relatives of se«men to know that when they arrived in Wellington there was an institution such ,as this for them to make use of. He added a trihuto to the bravery of our seamen in the present war, saying that no more glorious deeds had been performed than those done by British sailors during tho conflict which was now in progress. On the motion of. the rVn. -T. G. Yv Aitken, the meeting rendered thanks to all who had helped tho mission.
