MASTERTON NOTES
| Mr. G. It. Sykes, ALP., has been advised that the question of installing coin-in-the-slot telephones in Masterton will be considered when the automatic exchange is in operation. The Mastertoii Horticultural Society has been informed by the National Sweet Pea Society that owing to the society's trophies being retained by the Auckland Society, tlicy will not be available for the next Mastertoii Show. A sum of over £50 has already been subscribed towards the Heron Memorial Fund. Several business firms in Mastertoii have advanced money to thqir employees, in order that the latter may- invest in war certificates. 'The value, of the certificates applied for at the local Post Office up lo 3lond.iv evening was £2672. _ The Twentieth Reinforcements were given a, hearty send-ofl' on Tuesday morning. The quota left at nearly it's full strength. , The Wairarapa Patriotic Society lias cabled to England, staling tliab the Wairarapa ambulance may be used where it is most required.
