STOCK FOR FREEZING
According to inquiries made 'in Auckland about tho same quantity of stock is offering for freezing at present as was coming forward in July. Killing operations, at tho Southdown works arc restricted to two days, and sometimes three days, a went. , The Horotiu works are likely to bo closed for another period of three months, at tho" conclusion of which the season is expected to open. Shipping space was allotted to the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company for 42,000 carcasses during August. Already 21,000 carcasses liava been loaded, and 72,500 carcasses will also be taken away this month. This includes an additional allotment of space for 51,500 carcasses, which is due to the unanticipated arrival of tlie new steamer Leitrim, now loading at XVhangarci. The vessel'will take away 59,000 carcasses, representing a record shipment taken from the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company's Works, by one vessel' in the one load-, ing. No advice has been received by the Auckland Formers' .Freezing Company as to the allotment of shipping snace for September, but, if it is equal tr> the average, the meat in stock will practically be cleared ( at_ the en'd of next month. Congestion is not expected to recur next season, as the present storage capacity, is being increased by extensions at Southdown and Horotiu to proride space for 80,000 additional carcasses.
