NATIONAL RESERVE
~* : An encouraging beginning with its fortnightly parades was made by the Miramar-Seatoun unit on Tuesday evening. The parade took place at the tramway junction, and was commanded by Lieut. L. Norton-Taylor, who handed it over to Instructor Sergeant-Major Ayres, under whoso direction the members spent a profitable hour at squad movements, etc. It having been deemed advisable to make the parades fortnightly, instead of weekly as hitherto,, until the fine weather jets in, arrangements were made that in tho event of weather conditions proving unfavourable on September 5, tho parade would be an indoor one at the Miramar Town Hall. Notification was also given that tho farewell function tendered to Sergt. Rowland, who is now in camp, would take place on Saturday evening. CLASSES OF INSTRUCTION. Amongst the many activities of the National Reservo there has been none more energetic and painstaking than the instructional staff, Which has instituted a capital working syllabus for the end of the year, and is teaching same to every unit requiring instructors.'These men are fully qualified, and are said to bo meeting with a particularly good reception; the work progressing satisfactorily along sound lines.. A non-com's class has been in progress now for more than- two months, and is much appreciated, and now an officers' school of military training has been commonced. The classes meet every Monday, and Thursday evenings at-tho Wellington College 'gymnasium; which has very kindly boon granted them by Major Firth. The syllabus can be obtained on application to.the National Rosorve Headquarters, 157 Fcathefston Street.
