CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION
HARBOUR AUTHORITIES ' DISAPPOINTED.'
Among the- local bodies which have been pressing the Government in connection with tho need'for a new railway station in Wellington is-the-Harbour Board, which completed the extension •of the old wool .wharf to its present dimensions for the use of the LytteltonWellington ferry steamers some lime ago, in anticipation of being able to makeacloso connection with the longpromised central railway station in Bunny Street, but it is now apparent that passengers from the south are now about as happily situated as they were before.
Kef erring to this subject at last evening's meeting of 'the board, the chairman (Mr. C. E. Daniel!) reported that on July 27, 1916, the- chairman and se\'oral members of the board formed part of a deputation which waited on the "Hon. the-Minister of" Railways in connection with the establishment of a central railway station at Lambton. The Minister was sympathetic, but stated that owing. to lack of funds there was no probability of the work being proceeded with in the immediate future. The chairman added that the reception they had got was very disappointing, Tho Railway Department appeared to be on their, defence, and seemed to' be.disinclined to do the very'little hsked'them, bo that tho result of the deputation was practically nil. Mr. Sinclair: "Can't expect anything else at the present time." The chairman: "I'don't know; they go on'planning and spending."
