A "FRIGHTFUL" TORTOISE

NEW GERMAN WAR DEVICE. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. London, August 22. Tho "Morning. Post's" correspondent at headquarters says that the Anzacs describe a now device of German frightfulness called "The Tortoise," a creepylooking thing with four legs, left lying on parapets or in trenches and other handy places when the Germans run. It is really a high explosive bomb, bursting at the slightest touch. At first it caused'a nunibor of. casualties in the darkness, but' tho men have learned to deal successfully with this, like other German tricks. It is noteworthy that little has been seen lately of liquid fire.
