SCARLET FEVER
CHARGES UNDER THE HEALTH ACT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, August 22: In connection with the scarlet fever epidemic, the Health Department brought several charges against persons who have been in contact with sufferers, charging thorn with failing to notify and with exposing infected clothes. Counsel for the Department said the cases were brought for tho purpose of drawing public attention to the regulations regarding infectious diseases. Sihall penalties were inflicted by the Magistrates. In one case, G. T. Booth had been in his daughter's room but not in contact with tTTo patient. Thero was much argument as to -whether a doctor in a sick room could not equally be charged with exposing infected clothes. Counsol for the Department asked for an adjournment to bring evidence in support of Dr. Duncan's statements as to infec.tion carrying, but the Magistrate dismissed.the charge. ;■. "
