BALLANCE DAIRY COMPANY

The twenty-first annual report and balance-sheet of the Ballance Co-opera-tivo Dairy Company congratulates tho shareholders on another prosperous ficason, the prices realised for products being unprecedented. A largo proportion of tho output was placed on tho local market; another portion shipped Homo on open consignment, and a smaller quantity sold outright f.o.h. The London market has been an excellent ono, and proved that there is always a market for first-class' butter oven at prices that would have been considered absurd and prohibitive prior to the war. Tho quality of tho butter has again been vory satisfactory, grading highly all through tho season, and excellent reports had been reoeived from the London agents. Advances to suppliers averaged 13} d. for the season, Is. 4d. being paid in July, Is. August to Ootober, and Is. 2d. for tho remainder of the season. The balance of £7405 the directors propose to appropriate thus: To mako additional payments to shareholders who have supplied milk continuously throughout tho season a 6 follows: 2d. per- lb. on butter-fat for the months August to Ootober inclusive, plus ljd nor lb. on the whole of their supply miring the season, and to carry tho balance forward. The directors regret the want of loyalty displayed by a section of the suppliers by breaking away and establishing rival cheese factories, thus causing a competition for the milk supply, especially when last year they were given and refused the opportunity of declaring whether they would keep pace with tho world's markets and decide to put in a dual plant so that cheese might be manufactured if desired. The directors have decided to run Ballance as a creamery for tho coming season, bringing the cream, from there and Makomako to Scarborough, and thence to Konini, which it is anticipated will considerably lessen our expenses. The prospects for the coming !season as regards prices appear to be ! exceptionally good; there is a scarcity on the world's markets, and big prices are everywhere forecasted. Last spring Mr. J. Dawson retired from the board, and the directors appointed Mr. Charles-Udy to the vacant seat. The directors to retire are Messrs. A. M'Farlane and C. TJdy, who are eligible and offer themselves for re-election. We note with interest that all the best prizes for cheese at tho Palinerston ohow ■and the best prices in the London market were obtained by those makers who use Victor Vats. These famous vats embody a new principle of middle drainage —worth while investigating. A. J. Parton, Dairyman, Carterton.—Advt.
