•■' —;—_e . — THE CHILDREN'S .EFFORT/ ■ The final -meeting <of Ihe Belgian Children Eelief Fund Executive Committee, consisting of school teachers and chairmen of school committees in the Wellington Educational District, was held at the Education Board's office last night, Mr. W. Foster presid- ' ing. Thb balance-sheet presented by Mr. G. L. Stewart (treasurer to the fund) was as follows :■ — Receipts.—To Wellington Provincial Committco of Belgian Relief Fund, £1000; to collections of public schools, ' £1656 9s. 7d.; to collections of private schools, £111 4s. 9d.: other donors, £161 17s. 9d.; to produce sales, gross receipts, £1161 16s. 3d.; -total, £4091 Bs. 4d. . ■ ■ r \ Disbursements.—Cartage, £22 45.; printing and advertising, £50 12s. 2d.; signwriting, £5 165.; miscellaneous, £3 65.; refunds, £1 Is. 6d.; total, £82 19s. 8d ', . This leaves, said the treasurer, a net balance of £4008 Bk. Sd., of,- which' £3200 has already hen forwarded to London. Mr. Stewart also stated.that sinco tho above account was made up a further £66 7s. 7d. had'been received from the schools, and the secretary to the Marlborough Educational District, now united to the Wellington District, had written him stating that the chil- 1 dren in tho district had subscribed £430 3s. 2d., making a net total of £4524 19s. sd. Small sums,' he added, woro still dribbling in, and he ■ oxpected that in all about another £100 would he received, malting the very respectable total of well over £4600. . (Anplauso.)
