ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

— ♦ At the meeting of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society last evening an interesting and instructive lecture on T {Tha Carriage of Goods" was delivered to members hy Mr. W. L. Ward, M.A., LL.B. The lecturer gave a clear definition of what is meant by a common-carrier, and the legal responsibilities attaching to' such 'a person at common law, quoting leading cases which had shettled tho law upon ccrtain points. He then proceeded to outlino the obligations imposed upon common carriers by statutes such as the Mercantile Law Act. In conclusion, Mr. Ward touched upon "Bills of Lading" and tho effects of iTTo various clauses shown thereon'. Numerous questions were asked by members, and a liearty voto of thanks was accorded to the lecturer.
