HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The' Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presided over the meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough' Council on Monday, and Councillors Jiodgins, Meidrum, Carver, Brassel, Clendon, M'Dougall, Ball, and Hobbs were also present,' The Town Clerk, AVellingtan, proposed a conference botween the Wellington City Council and Lower Hutt Council to consider the matter of dedication of the Gracefield Road. It was decided to reply stating that the council could not see its way to accede to the request. . . Mr. E. P. Bunny (borough solicitor) forwarded a letter from Mr. T. Young, solicitor, suggesting that this council should combine with tho Hutt County and l'etolie Borough Councils in applying for an Order-in-Couucil, under Section 36 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1910, authorising the pooling of heavy traffic license fees. It was decided to ask Mr. Young to refer the matter for further consideration to the Upper Hutt Town Board, Hutt County and Eastbourne Borough Councils, before coming to a decision. The Commissioner of Crown Lands asked to be furnished with an estimate of the cost of construction of the proposed roads througli the Hall-Jones Settlement. The matter was referred to tho engineer. Au offer to dedicate about 21 acres of land along the baid;s of the Waiwetu River, for a public park, together with 12J acres- of roads running through Sections 12 and 13, Block XIX, on condition that the council would undertake the making of the roads and streets was declined, as recommended by tho No. 2 Committee. Tho Mayor presented to the council a memorial board, procured for' tho purpose of recording the names of tho so who had gone on active service for the Empire. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Mayor for his gift, and a committee, consisting of Councillors M'Dougall, Ball, Hobbs, Meidrum, and tho Town Clerk, was appointed to tako the necessary steps to have tho board completed.
The engineer's report stated that the gas consumption had now passed the twelve million mark, 12,557,000 ft. having been registered during the year ended July 31 Inst. Tho council was now entitled to a further reduction of Id. per 1000 ft. in the price of gas. Three connections had been made with tho gas, and two with the water mains, making the total to date 577 and 1024 respectively.
