Lambert), of New Plymouth, who arrived in England last week, was at once accepted for work in a munition factory, for .which purpose he had come to this country. Miss Mary R- Barkas, who is at the Medical School at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, is shortly going to New Zealand 011 ai few^months' holiday, to visit her people in Canterbury. Mr. Alan Alacfarlane, of Christchurch, who has been discharged from the New Zealand Army, lias como to ■England to try to got a commission in the R.F.C. . ' _ Miss B. C. Button, of Auckland, who has been doing Red Cross work for some time, is now undergoing a. course of training at the Agricultural College, Cambridge, with a view to going 011 tho land during the summer months. Miss Blanche. Butler, head .mistress' of the . Auckland Girls' Grammar School, who was granted a year's leave of absence, has visited relatives and friends in various parts of England and Franco since her arrival in March, and is staying in London until August. Miss Didsbury is visiting Masterton, and is the guest of Mrs. H. Hume. An of self-sacrifice to the Empire is given by Mrs. J. Holmes;- of Queen Street, Hastings. Mrs. Holmes has-given four sons to the Empire: Private Reuben Holmes was killed at Gallipoli on August 8 last year, LanceCo rporal Holmes has been reported killed in action on July 27 last, another son has been invalided-home, while a fourth son is still at the front.
