The official report on the operations in East Africa states"Since their defeat on Jime 24 the onemy had occupicd strong positions in the densely wooded Nounu Mountains. General Enslin, in si wide enveloping movement, traversed ; the centre of the Nouhu Mountains in an arduous advance of fifty miles through rough forest, .and emerged on August 8 upon a point overlooking the Objonga Valley. Meanwhile Generals Hokins, Sheppard, and Brits entered tho Objonga Valley, and stubborn actions developed on August 9. Tho enemy's resistance was broken by August 11 at Montamonda, and they were pursued down the valley. General Van de Venter, further west, encountered the enemy in a strong position in a defile ten miles west or Apapua, and in an all-night fight drove the enomy back on Apapua, inflicting severe losses. Simultaneously, our column swept southwards between Nguro and the coast, disposing of scattered parties. ; "General Northey is now approaching Iringa, on Lake Tanganyika. The Rhodesians have occupied the Island of Kirando, while the Belgians have occupied Karema, fifty miles north of Kirando, and the Belgians south of Lake Viotoriaare closely pressing the enemy." .
