ROUGH TIME AT DUPPA STREET

A fairly largo liumbor of spectators witnessed the match between Welling-ton'College-and Petone at the Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon. The match '.was a good one from all points of view. College started off with a good rush, and tried hard to get the ball over the line. A 'scrum at five yards resulted, and the ball was hooked out by Petone and sent to the other end of the field. Some fast play ensued, and the ball went from one end to the other and back again. Hp till half-time College appeared to bo having the best of the'game, although they had only managed one try, which was got by Welsh. Petone came on after half-time determined to do or die, and Bennett commenced the score by kicking a penalty. Tries for Petone were got by Cowie, Ambler, and. Morris. Two of them were oonverted by Bennett, who also kicked two penalties. For College, Welsh got a try, and Morton kicked a penalty. Mr. Simpson, who refereed the game, was remarkably fair, and missed very little in the game. 1 Poneke v. Athletic, on No. 2, Athletic Park, was. a. fairly even game, and resulted in a win for Athletic by 5 against nil. At Duppa Street, the match between Oriental and Wellington, was a fast one, and was stopped eight times on account of men being knocked , out. One. man had to be carried off the field.
