BILLIARDS

CRYSTALATE BILLIARDS CUP. Two really excellent game's were played on Saturday night at Messrs. Alcock and Co.'s rooms, when Dyhrberg (Marist Brothers) beat Wakem (Dominion Club), and Owen (Wellington Club) beat Tucker (Federal. Club). In the game between Dyhrberg and Wakem matters were very even, and at no stago in the game did the one lead the other by more than a reasonable break. Wakem, who is a wonderfully quick and accurate shot-getter, might easily have won this game but for the fact that ho took several easy shots too easily. The game ended when he had reached 288. Owen, the present champion, had no great difficulty in beating Tucker, and he displayed much better form than on his last appearance. So also did Tucker. The cham-: pion is a most careful player, and has always position well in mind, and in his effort to secure this he missed time and again what was in appearance an easy shot, but in reality was not so. The game ended: Owen, 300; and Tucker, 206. The semi-finals between Shanks and Congdon and Dyhrberg and Owen will bo played on Monday, August 28, the games being 500 up.' ,Th'e best breaks in the eveniug's play were: Owen, 51, 33, 24, 21; Dyhrberg, 31; Wakem, 39, 39, 23; Tucker, 25 and 23. ■
