SMUGGLING OPIUM
CHINESE OFFICIALS IN TROUBLE. 1 ("The Times.") / (Rec. August 13, 5.5 p.m.) .London, August 12. The "Times" correspondent at Shanghai states that seventeen, thou-sand-pounds of opium were discovered in the luggage of Yunnanese Parliamentarians, en' route to Peking. Four arrests have been made. The culprits used their official positions to evade the Customs. Serious consequences are expected.
