RECRUITING THE SMALL INVESTOR
IN THE RANKS OF PATRIOTIC
MONEY-LENDERS,
In connection with the appeal for subscriptions for the War Loan, the Postmaster-General Joseph Ward) has addressed the following ciroular to every officer of the Post and Telegraph Service: —
"I am addressing you personally with a view of securing your 00-operation in making the loan a success. Men have been leaving the country in thousands for two years past for the purpose of fighting its battles, and money is needed «i tnnnb aj men in order to sccurs victory over the coriimon enemy. You and I have not been able to take any part in the fighting, but we can do our part effectually by finding the money t<f maintain the men who are fighting. Will you assist by subscribing personally, and by bringing the matter under the notice of every one of yout friends and urging them to help? 'The country needs the use' of tho money ncft - . Hitherto, most of the money required for the war has been obtained from the Old Country/though the conditions of life are far harder there than they are here. While there are many New Zealanders brave enough to fight and die for their country, is it to be 6aid of those whj Stayed behind that they were too mean even to pay? I shall be very glad if you will do all in your power to assist in preventing such a reproach being deserved. Many of us are debarred from firing leaden bullets, but we all have the chance of firing a silver one now."
