FAMOUS JUMPER DESMOND
Mr. A. .Tudd, who owned Desmond, the famous old hunter and high-jumper, for many years, has advised the secretary of the Royal Agricultural Society, that the old favourite (as reported by cable) died on July 'i 6. He had been kept in a special box for several'years, and had a run in a small paddock in which a foal was always kept for company fur tho old fellow. Desmond was about 30 years old, and was undoubtedly the greatest showground jumper that has ever appeared in Australian rings. He must have won something like XSOOO in prizes in the, shows. His great point was his consistency, and he was never taken to a show in his life at which he did not score something for his owner. He was bred near Benalla, in Victoria, and passed through several hands before coming into tho possession of Mr. H. D. Morton, who bought him when lie jumped (sft. lOin. at Albury. Subsequently, when Air. Morton dispersed his jumping string, Mr. .Tudd bought Desmond with several others, and the horse was even more successful so far as years nf'jumping went than when ho was with Mr. Morton.
Messrs. Saxon Bros., Potts Road, Ihakara, Levin, have instructed Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., to auction the stock, etc.. a' the farm, on August 7.
