SHEARERS' DEMANDS
A summary was published yesterday of the new demands - framed by : the New Zealand Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Conference. Following are the detailed claims;— > .-Shearing.—The rate of pay for flock sheep shall be 255. a hundred, all sheep to be.free of dags before being brought into the shed. ' All stud sheep, rams, ramstags, and double-fleeced sheep dhall be paid for at double rates. AH shearers, shed hands, and cooks shall be conveyed from the nearest railway station or their fares paid by the employer ixj and; from the shed, and from shed to shed.
Shed Hands. —The rate for shed hands, apart from shall bo £2 10s. a week and lounoTirrespective of age or sex. ; ' ■ Wool Prcssers. —The rates for wool pressing shall be Is. 9d. per bale, or 7d. per cwt., but in no case shall, the mimimum wage be less than £3 a tfeek and found. • '
Cooks.—Cooks shall receive £4 a week for twenty men or under; £5 a week for between 20 and 30 men; and. for over 30 men £6 a week and found in each case.' Cooks' assistants shall be provided where there are, 20 men and over, and shall : bo paid £2 15s. fx>r week and found.
Musterers and Packers. —lt was resolved to cite the employers for an award for musterers and packmen at the following rates: —Musterers, los. a day, 20s. on Sundays, and 255. a day .when engaged in,raking; packmen, £3 per week, all found in rations. Cmtching.—The rate for crutching shall be 6s. per 100, and wigging 7s. per 100, and found in rations. '
It was decided by the conference that a meeting "of members ho called in Masterton for the purpose of citing the employers in the Wairarapa for a shearers' and shed hands' award.
