The Prime Minister (tho Bight, Hon. W. F. Massey) lias received an interesting official review of the operations of Now Zealand's Imperial meat supply. The period covered by the review is August 2• to August 8, aud the statement runs:—
During the period under review the following steamers have been dispatched, all from Wellington:—
Ruapchu, August 1, for London, via Panama, with: 13,672 carcasses of mutton, wethers. 14,344 carcasses mut'ton, owes. 36,537 Carcasses lamb. 6,880 quarters beef. 715 l|ags beef. F. 0.8. value, excluding storage £74,050. Whakatano, August 3, for Loudon, via Panama, with: 24,976 carcasses mutton, wethers 18,370 carcasses mutton, ewoß. • 32,976' carcasses lamb. • 3j926 quarters beef. F.O.Br' -value, excluding storage, £81,011. Tainui, August 5, for London, via Axistralia and South Africa. Particulars of shipment'by this vessel are not yot available. Shipping Facilities. The steamers at present in the Dominion for loading arc: — Port Elliot, to sail about August 20; R-otorua, to sail about August 21/; Durham, to sail about August 31; Waiwera, to sail a.bout September!; Corinthic, to sail about September 5. To theso may bo added tlio Roscommon, capacity 50,000 carcasses, available for loading at the end of August. A cablegram has been received from the High Commissioner, dated August 4, on tho subject of tonnage, stating that the London Tonnage Committee liave arranged for tlie Leitrim to load meat iii the Dominion during the month .v The vessel is to leave Brisbane for her first loading port on August 16, and is, due about August 21. This brings the number of steamers availablo for September to eight, i.e., Leitrim, Devon, Tongariro, Arawa, Pakeha, Zealandic, Delphic, and Port Napier. The quantity of meat to be lifted by these vessels will amount, approximately, to 750 000 601b. carcasses. \ /, Meat in store. Tho meat held! in store on account of tho Imperial Government in the various works on July 22 consisted of:— Mutton, wethers 477,943 Mutton, ewes 401,233 Lamb 562,018 ■ Beef 578,627 Mutton pieces 10,464 These quantities refer to 601b. carcasses. Tho total is 2,030,285. Estimates obtained from the freezing companies, of ■ the moat remaining in store on August 15, for which no space allocations havo been made, total 1,421-, 336 601b. carcasses. If the estimated killings to 1 September 30 bo added to this -quantity, namely 77,000, and a deduction made of the shipments estimated to take place during September, tho result will show that approximately three-quarters of a million 601b. carcasses will remain in store oil 30fch pros., for which shipping facilities will be required to clear the stores. Tho quantity in storo at' the same date last year amounted to 665,992 601b. carcasses. • ' The Payments Made. The payments made during tho period under revi'ew amounted to £132,294, bringing the total to date to £11,397,669.
