STANDING COMMITTEE'S FIRST
MEETING
Tho _ first meeting of tho Standing Committee of the General Synod of tho Clutrch of New Zealand was held on Wednesday, thore being present:— Right Rev. Dr. Averill, Von. Archdeacon, G. MacMurrnv, and Mr. C. J. Tunks (Auckland); Right Her. Dr. Julius, Very Rev. Dean C-arriiigton, and Mr. ii. D. Andrews (Christchurch) ; the Most Rev. the Primate, Dr. Ncvill (chairman),'and the. Very Rev. Dean Fitchett (Dunedin); Right ltov. Dr. Sadlicr, \'en. Archdeacon Kcmpfhorne, and Mi 1 . C. \X. Brown (Nelson); Right Rev. Dr. Sedgwick, Rev. Canon IV. Mayne, and Mr. J. H. Sheath ■ (Waiapu); Itight Rev. Dr. Sprott, ilcv. A. M. Johnson,- and Mr. W. J. Birch (Wellington). A sub-conimittce was appointed to take steps to draw up a revised lexionary for submission to the Bishops. In the same connection a motion was passed that in the opinion of the committee tho canons should be so amended as to givo greater liberty to Diocesan Synods m constituting "areas other than parish and parochial districts for cathedral, collegiate, o." other purposes, as may bo thought necessary. The Primato was requested to convey to His Graco tho Archbishop of Canterbury tho assurance of the Church of tho Province of New Zeajand, of lovo and sympathy with him in connection with his of rcpentanco and help. It was resolved that meetings he hold on the second. Wednesday in August in each year.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to those who had afforded hospitality to tho members of itlie committee.
