BILLIARDS
— * —: —. ORYSTALATE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho first game last night, between R. F. M'Kay (Post and Telegraph Club), aud G. Dyhrberg (Marist Bros.), was very keenly contested. _ Both players are so equal in quality that in repeated contests tho ono would probably win as often as tho other. M'Kay got going at the start rather hotter than his opponent, but at about sixty they drew oven. Then, with tho balls running well, Dyhrberg got an advantage of nearly 50, when M'Kay, with a nice break of 51, drew slightly ahead. Thereafter, rnitil tho end, a very few points separated the playors. At 288, with 12 to go, M'Kay miscued at an easy shot, with good position left, after which his opponent, with 17 to go, managed to sccuro tho verdict. The best breaks were: M'Kay, 51 and 35; Dyhrberg, 39 and 26. -j The next gamo waß between A. Wakom (Dominion Club), and P. Devine (Petone W.M. Club). For a whilo Devino gave quite the better exhibition of: billiards and led his opponent, but about mid-way through the gamo his play fell off, and Wakem had little difficulty in catching up" and gaining the lead. Devino is wonderfully clever in his screws and showed skill beyond the average in many of his cannons. Still Wakem was rather tho safer player, and tho more consistent, Wakem's best breaks were 30 and 32, and Devino's 34, 26, and 24. To-night, at Messrs. Alcock and. Co.'s showrooms, W. N. Tucker and W. J. S. Hayward, both of the Fedoral Club, meet, and J. H. Owen, Wellington Club (last year's winner) plays H. Stone, Petone Working Men's Club. These two games should be well worth watching.
