WAR REGULATIONS
——~Q~ THE NEW ACT EST FORCE. The War Regulations Act, which passed both Houses of Parliament during tho session just ended, is now in force. Its chief aim is to give the Oiovernor-in-Coiincil tho power to make further regulations in connection with the exigencies of tho present war Theso include the control of licensed houses, tho_ regulation of sale of intoxicating liquor to women, "the •suppression or regulation of tho practice of treating," and the suppression of prostitution, or for the prevention of venereal disease. Tho Act will not attain the full measure of effect in regard to anti-treat-mg and other matters, until the regulations are gazetted. When they are gazetted, the public ivill be able to fully gauge the extent of the powers which the Act has given the Government of the country under war conditions. Those regulations are now being prepared by the Law Drafting Dennrtment, and will he gn/nttcd at the earliest possible opportunity.
