VICTORIA COLLEGE DEBATING SOCIETY

On Saturday evening tho Victoria University College' Debating Society debated the question "That post-bellum restrictions on German trade would be in tho best interests ■of the British Empire." Mr. J. P. Byrne presided over a good attendance, and Mr. H." P. Von Haast acted as judgo. The motion was defended by Messrs. H.C. Jenkins and .T.H.Ross, aud opposed by Messrs. G. G. G. Watson and ,1. Cocker. A number of other members took part, and at the conclusion of tho debate 'a vote was taken 'which resulted in the motion being lost by a large majority. Mr. Von. Haast, in his judgment, gave an interesting survey of the objects and conclusions of the Paris Conference, and placed the first best speakers for the purposes of tho union prize in tho fol. lowing order:—Mr. Watson, 1; Mr. Archer, 2; Mr; .Jenkins, li; Mr. Cooper, i; Mr. Cocker, S. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the judge, and tho chairman announced that the subject of the address to bo shortly given to the society by its' president, Professor D. M. Y. SomerviUe, would be "Spiritualism and the Fourth Dimension."
