HEMP AND TOW GRADING
r The Agricultural Department's re- " turn showing the quantities of hemp, •tow, and stripper slips graded at tlio. ports of the Dominion during the month of July, 1916, shows that the total number of bales of hemp graded .was 10,396, as compared with 7304 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 3091 bales. For the twelve months ending July 31, the number of hales graded was 148,026, as compared with 89,465 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 58,661bales. During the month 3115 bales of tow were dealt with, as compared with 2,046 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 1069 bales. For the twelve months ending July 30 the number of bales graded was 40,761, as compared with 23,752 for the previous ' twelve months, an increase of ! 17,009 bales. During the month the number of bales of stripper slips' graded _ was 449, as compared with 120 for the _corresponding month of last year, an ■increase of 329 bales. For the twelvo months ending July. 31, 1916, the number of bales graded was 6840, as compared with 1675 for the previous twelve -'months, an increase of 5165 bales. . "'SALE OF FAT AND STORE STOCK.' .i. In another column, Messrs. Abraham .land "Williams, Ltd., of Palmerston North, advertise entries for their Linton stock sale, to be held on Tuesday next. ■ On behalf of Sir. William-Craw,, of Linton, they will offer 25 fat and forward bullocks, 700 two to six-tooth wether.", ; 200 two-tooth to sound mduth ewes in lamb to Blackface and Cheviot rams, a.iui 100 mixed hoggets. Messrs. Alters Bros., also of Linton, will offer GO extra prime fat bullocks,: and 50 extra heavy prime . fat sheep. These latter sheep were in-'-tended for the fat sheep competitions at the Jlanawatu A. and P. Society's November Show,, but owing to the floods their feeding grounds have been submerged, so Messrs. Akers Bros, have decided to sell them on Tuesday next. Buyers by making arrangements with' tile 'auctioneers can get conveyance by car from Palmerston North on the morning of. the sale. ■ • ' V' - : ' We note xith .interest that all the best prizes for cheese at the Palmerston Show and the best prices in the London market were obtained by those makers who use Victor Vats.
