At a. meeting of the Banners' Union Mr| John Talbot, president, reported on thft interview of the delegates from the wheat-growing districts with the Premier, some days ago, with a request i'or a protective tariff. Hei proceeded to emphasise the arguments,"put before Mr. Massey. He. was sure,-ho. said, that the area of spring wheat would be restricted by at least 'one-third. We could, not, under the present conditions, expect wheat to be, profitable. Whether there iras a surplus or shortage next harvest, the surplus could not be got away, and Austra-lia-i would make up any shortage. Other members endorsed the statement that, spring wheat will not be largely sown.
