A MAORI DRAFT
CALLED TJl> TOO SOOis ?
A hitch in the arrangements for the recruiting of Maoris seems to have occurred. The Hon. Jlr. Xgata stated in the House yesterday that an understanding had been entered into some time ago that the recruits from the Wuiapu district would not be called upon for two or three months, in order that labour conditions in tho district might not be disorganised. It was evident that this arrangement had been departed from, because he had received a telegram that they were in camp at Auckland. The Gisborne office had apparently called tho mon up sooner than they wero re> quired. Dr. Pomare said that tho men had heen sent in through some error, sooner than had been intended. He had received a telegram two days ago that the men were in camp. Ho did not know how this hnd occurred, but ho would make inquiries.
