"FRITZ A BAD SHOT."
LETTER FEO.U THE FIRING-LINE.
A letter received by SuMnspector M'Kiunon, of the Wellington Police Force from liis son, K. .T. Jl'lvimion, at present with the New Zealand Expeditionary- Force in France, indicates the heart of tile New Zealand troops. "Just a line or two from the trenches," says the writer, "lo let you know that as yet Fritz has not'been Successful in finding, his mark, .though it. is not for the want of trying, and if only British troops were at the end of liis rifles I would have had a holiday lons ago. 1 Fritz is a truly'bad shot, and it must cost him thousands of pounds a day for bullets and .shells which do 110 good-. I have been watching one of our aeroplanes at which he hasboon firing for,the last half-hour, using about. 1000 shells, and the plane is still going and encouraging their fire, absolutely unconcerned about the enemy. Life hero is not so bad as people in Now Zealand might expect, and except for long hours and the need to be ever alert, with just a littio inconvenience in the way of meal hours, for which Fritz has no respect, tilings are very well indeed—much better than T expected. I dare not tell you anything as to our operations. It would not do; much as T would like io, but when I get. back I will be able to entertain you by the hour. "We arc quite a happy crowd here, and (lie more shots nnd shells that arc flying about the more we like it, and we are lauching from one enjl of' the dav to the other. Such a thing as dnwnhcar'lednoss is unheard of. We do not live under clouds."
