LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY

CAIHUVAL PKOGKAMML*. The executive of the Royal Life-Saving Society held a .special meeting on Wednesday at the Boys' Institute. There wore present: Messrs. G. T. Hill (chairman), T. Shields, G. Neal, J. A. Duffy, J. Kolier, C. T. Bell, and C. W. Collier ,(hon. secretary)... The principal business of the evening was the arrangement of the society's swimming and life-saving carnival and demonstration, to be held on August 10. It was decided to invite the chairmanelect of the Wellington Education Board to make the opening address on that occasion, and to ask His Excellency the Governor to extend his patronage to the carnival. The programme will comprise a schoolboys' rescue race, exhibition land drills, and water work, soldiers' race/.pairs rescue race, medley handicap '(one length breast and one length hack), junior handicap, ladies' medley handicap, exhibition diving from surface for body, secondary schools' breast-stroke handicap, exhibition of scientific swimming by Messrs. Billson and Shields, ladies' diving'competition, scouts' undressing relay race, boys' medley handicap for.institute members, and u 66 2-3 yards handicap for seniors. There will be no charge made to the general public for admission to the carnival. ,
