TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD

A meeting of the Wellington Technical Education Hoard was held on Tuesday. There were present: 'Mr. George Frost (chairman), Hon. if. G. W. Aitken, Messrs. L. E. Partridge, H. Gore, T. Ballinger, C. M. Luke, Atkins, TV. H. Bennett, and G. L. Stewart. The financial statement showed receipts amounting to £l3oi 12s. lid.,.anil expenditure to the amount of. .£79B' 10s. Gd. The debit balance was' at present I JJIS-4 125., as against 15s. lOd.v at this time last year. Mr. La Trobe. explained that the big difference was owing to the receipt of JJIUfIO capitation received earlier than last year. The statement was adopted. A letter was read from one of the junior instructors, who objected to pay the superannuation, charges .out of his salary (for evening work). Mr. La Trobe said that the matter had come before the board at the last meeting, when he was' instructed to write to the Department suggesting the necessity of an alteration to the Act, which provided for the 5 per- cent, reduction necessary. As he had no instructions from the" hoard the deduction, had not been made. It was stated that, there .was. no prospect of the Act being altered this session, but the required amendment had practicnllv been promised.
