INFERIOR MATERIAL
The statement made in Parliament yesterday by the Minister in Charge of the Department of Military Supplies regarding the reported detection of inferior material in soldiers' uniforms supplied by one of the Government contractors was satisfactory so far as it went. It is clear from the information given by Mr.. Myers that care has been exercised to ensure that goods and material supplied to the Defence Department shall be of the specified quality. It is also plain from tho Minister's explanation that the cjuality of the uniforms arranged for by tho Defence authorities is all that could be desired. So far all is as it should be. But tjiat there was at least some ground for the unpleasant stories in circulation is disclosed by the Minister's very frank recital of the facts at present- available! for publication. The matter being in tho hands of the Crown Law Officers, it would not be fitting to make further comment at the present time, beyond tho expression of the opinion that the Government owes it to the public to, in due course, make the whole tacts known, including the names of the contractors concerned.
