THE NAVY LEAGUE
OVER .£1.2,679 FOR NAVAL HER'OES. A final meeting of the Sailors' Dependants' Eund special eiecutivo of the Navy League, was held in tho Mayor's room last'night. Mr. Hiircourt was in tho chair, and there were also present: Mrs. A. H. Waters, tho Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke), Messrs. W. H. 'foster, C. R. Smith, R. Darroch, A.- E. S. Robinson, A. E. Pollock, *B. Kecsing, G. Q. Townsend, and C. W. Palmer. > Mr. Luko moved that the •■ appeal for funds for sailors' dopendants bo -now closed, and this was seconded by Mr. C. R.'Smith, and carried. Tho treasurer (Mr. IJarroch.) reported that the total collections made by the Wellington branch, of the . league had reached ■£12,079 Is. 9d'., of which .£IO,OOO had already been cabled to London. The only expenses incurred had been .£26 2s. 7d. for advertising, and providing goods for sale on NavaL Day. It was resolved to cable ,£2600 through tho Prime Minister, as before, and later on to remit.. any balance on hand by draft. (The total sum raised by all tho branches, of tho Navy League -in New Zealand is now over .666,000). It' was; resolved to-set up a .recruiting sub-committee, with a view to an extension, of tho league's local membership. Tho\ sub-committee, subject to ■their approval, to consist of Mrs. HallThompson,! Mrs. A. H. Waters; Mrs. C. E. Richardson, Messrs. J. B. Hnrcourt, C. R. Smith, B/Keesing, C. W. Palmer, and R. Darroch. In view of Mr. Palmer's time being more than fully occupied otherwise, Mr. Darroch undertook to act as secretary to the sub-commit-tee.
