LAGGARD OFFICERS TO BE SUPERSEDED CqST OF KITS " THE COURSES FOR THE YEAR Wellington Military District orders just published state:—"lt is noticed that m certain units no attempt has been made to complete the establishment by tho promotion of captains to majors, and lieutenants to captains, and it has been suggested that promotions are delayed because 6ome officers do.not qualify for promotion und block those lower on the list. It must be understood that if officers do not take the opportunity of qualifying for promotion or fail to pass promotion examinations, they should be superseded by officers lower down the list, who, if qualified for promotion, should be "promoted in supersession of those who do not qualify." Staff Sergeants-Major.-The undermentioned Staff SergeantsMajor have been promoted to warrant rank:—F. H. Woodward, R. J. D. Davis, H. L. Brighting, C. H. Riczema, J. T. Dallinger, T. Collins, J. J. Corkhill, C. S. Mahoney. , The undermentioned Sergeant Instructors, having completed their period of probation, are confirmed in their appointments:—W. A. Johnston, W. H. M. Yarrow. , The Dental Corps; It has been decided that the following procedure shall he adopted in dealing with applications for commissions in the New Zealand Dental Corps:— The application will be sent to. the Senfor Dental Officer (or the Deputy Director of Dental Services in each district, if or when one is appointed) for his recbm-', mondation thence to the Officer Com-' manding the District, for his recommendation,, and then to Headquarters, N.Z.M.F., Wellington. Musketry Course! Tho classification in tho .musketry course.will bo:—Marksman, 65 points'; qualification, 35 points. Officers' Examinations. The undermentioned officers have qualified by examination in the subjects stated a'gainst their nanies:—Capt. A. E. Brown, Wellington G.A. Division, subject "C" Fort Dorset? 2nd Lieut. W. E. Burge, U.L. (b), subject "A,", Gisborne. It has been decided by Headquarters that officers of the Motor Service Corps are not eligible for transfer to other arms until they pass the examination for first appointment. Courses of Instruction. _The- courses to bb carried out in the Wellington' Military. District during tho current year have been arranged as follows:— .-"■-■■ August 14-19—An obligator}' six days' course (including "the exam.) for Terri-torial-and Senior Cadet n.c.o.i's going up for examinations for commissions in August. There will be pay as laid down in Financial Instructions and travelling allowances. Rations and lodging to be provided out of the grant. •September.—Ten days' district refresher course for acting staff corps and permanent staff (temporary appointm-Mits). October.'—Fourteen , days' district ror fresher courses (voluntary) for ocers arid n.c.o.'s, Territorials and Senior Cadets. No pay. Travelling allowances for days going and returning-. Rations and lodging, etc., to be provided out of the grant. November.—Dominion refresher course (obligatory), five days, for selected officers (probably four-from each district, N.Z.S.C, Permanent Staff and Permanent N.Z. Field Cadre), preparatory to district exercise on the ground without troops. This course will probably bo held in the Wellington district. December (period . between Ist and loth).—District exercises (Wellington district) on the ground without tioops (three days), uuder the direction of the Assistant Director of Military Training. Travelling allowances are admissible. '-. January.—Voluntary (six days) cenrsn of instruction for officers (Territorial and Senor Cadets) preparatory to the February exam, for promotion. No pay. Travelling allowances for days going and returning. Rations and lodging, etc., to be provided out of the grant. February.—A voluntary district refresher cou.rso for selected officers , and n.c.o.'s, of Territorial Force Units going into annual camps, fourteen , days; seven days for mounted.'and other .units' and seven days for infantry. Limited to two' -officers per unit. No pay. Allowances in accordance with Financial Regulations. February.—An obligatory (six days) courso, including the examination for Territorial and Senor Cadet n.c.o.'s going np for examination 'for commissions in February. The Motor Corps. The following promotions have been approved :— Captain Wm. Beauchamp-Platts, to be major, and to be staff officer. Lieuts. A. O. Bishop and D. Kettle to be captains. Lieuts. C. E. Aldridge and W. Pryor to be temporary captains.
