Mr. W. Ellis, of Morston Road, Carterton, has disposed of. his farm to Mr. Matthews, and leaves on Monday for Napier, where ho intends residing until again settling on the land.. Commencing from the beginning of August, the chemists, of the Wairarapa have arranged to close their shops at 6 p.m. on week nights, in lieu of 8 p.m., Thursdays and Saturdays excepted. The Carterton Borough Council has decided to license traction engines, and prohibit such , engines travelling over certain roads within the borough. .
The annual nieeting of the Wairarapa Past Grands' Lodge of Oddfellows was held at Carterton on Thursday 'evening, Bro. A. C.' Holnt6 (president) in the chair. Thre9 members of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge were installed into the Most Honourable Purple . Degree and given lodge honours. They were afterwards initiated as members of the lodge. The election and installation of officers for the ensuing term''was as follows:— President, P.O. Bro. M. B. Tait; vice-, president, P.G. Bro. Smart; secretary, P.G. Bro. C. J. Do Lacey; auditor, P.G.M. Bro. D. P. Loasby and P.G'. Bro. A. P. Smith; lecture master P.G. Bro. A. C. Holms; members.of Management Committee, P.P.G.M. Bro. J. A. Boake; P.G. Bro. .T. F. Wallis, and P.G.M. Bro. D. P. Loasby; warden, P.G. Bro. Henry. Tho next meeting of the lodge will bo held at Loyal Greytown Lodge, when a presentation of an Oddfellow's jewel will bo made to tho retiring-secretary (Bro. Smart). The retiring lecture master's (P.G. Bro. C. J. De Lacey) name was ordered to be placed upon the Honours Board, and a hearty, vote of thanks was passed to him for his services while passfug the chair of tha Lodge. A Past Provincial Grand Master of Ashburton district, Pte. Bro. \Paterson was present, and was accorded'lodge honours.
