SWIMMING
N.Z.A.S.A. MEETING A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the Amateur Swimming Association was held on Thursday, Mr. H. C. N. Blick presiding. The principal matter for discussion was the sub-committee's report on the subject, of whether bath custodians and attendants who belong fo the professional class should be allowed to officiate in any cup'city in any swimming event authorised l>v'any centre or club. The sub-committee's report stated that the custodian or attendant would not,-under any condition, be allowed to participate in any event which was held for amateurs. hut that it considered nn objection should be raised to their officiating at aiiy event. The report was ndopted, and'is to be on .to the N.Z. Council.
A motion which was unanimously carried was: "That the attention of the City Council he called to the necessity of talcing prompt actioi) to improve the conditions of the Te Aro Baths, and that it is impressed upon the council that tliere is an element, of danger to the bathers if the present silting up in I lie baths is allowed to continue." A lenpthv discussion: took place on the matter, and Afr. lilundell said a prominent doctor had advised him that* the baths weTe in a" extremely unhealthy condition. MiFarnell remarked' thnt although he came from Auckland, he admitted that the baths were tb» best in New Zealand, and the. council wa= allowimr them to brcome siltc l i'p. and ■a menace lo public, henltli.
