Mr. M'Combs, M.P., has received the following reply from His Excellency theGovernor to his letter requesting that His Excellency should withhold his assent to tho Military Service Bill for a few clays, until a petition could to presented to him concerning tho Bill:— "Dear Sir,—l. dulv received your letter of this day's date, and have referred tho matter to my Constitutional Advisers. In reply, 1 des'irc to inform you that, provided your petition reaches mo within tho next day or two, I am prepared to postpone affixinc: my signature to th« Military Servico Bill, but I wish to point out that I should not feel justified in taking any action in tbo matter which: would be contrary to the advice of my Ministcrs.-Yours faithfully (Signed)' Liverpool, Governor." A Press Association cablegram from London records tho death of Captain Ala6tair Thomson, of tho Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and tho third eon of Mr. Sinclair Thomson, of Geraldino. Now Zealand. Captain Thomson was killed in action in France.
