HUTT BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB
Tlio thirteenth annual report of- t.ho Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club states that the year commenced with a credit of £7i Os. 3d., and closod on June 30 with a balance of .£92 lis., an increase of „ElB lis. 7d. on the previous year. Gas and telephone services have been installed during the year at a cost of -£29, and a coucession of Gd. per. member had been made for entertainment in inter-club matches, the receipts oil-this account being consequently reduced by .£G 2s. During the season 15 new members had been elected, the membership at present being IG9. Thirty-eight in-ter-club matches wero played, the club winning 16 and losing 22. The Petonc Club was again successful in retaining the President's Cup. The ninth cantest for the Duthie Cup took place this year at Wellington, and was won by Wanganui. During the season the death occurred of the patron of the club (tlio Hon. John Duthie) and of Air. William Mowbray, one of the founders o! the club. The committee expresses to the relatives of these gentlemen the sympathy of the club members. The attendance at the tennis courls had been below that of previous years, owing to tlie members uf l>oth sexes being actively engaged in matters pertaining 1o the war. No championship matches were played, and the handicap events Vcro not concluded. In respect to croquet, the season was a successful one. Visitors were entertained from tie JS'gacoma, Lyall Bay, Reatoun, and Khandallah Clubs, and pleasant days were spent. The club thanks Mrs. Yates for silver brooches, and also Mesdames Avson and Pollard lor Irophios presented for competition.
