In 1906, owing to Castro's refusal to allow the French Minister to land, France broke off diplomatic relations. In the next year Venezuela had to pay, under the lintling of Tho Hague Court. ;£G!)1,000 in settlement of tho British, German, and Italian claims, but others, amounting to remained to be settled. In 1!)0S the Dutch "Minister was expelled after a dispute with the Dutch Government, and the Dutch sent gunboats, which destroyed Castro's fleet and blockaded his ports.
