Port Waterside Onion' meeting yesterday a letter was received from tho Federation of Labour, asking whether the local union was in favour of a general strike, as a protest against tlib National Service Bill. It was decided to reply with an emphatic negative, and also that any further communication from tho Federation would be placed in the waste-paper basket unread. \ Chrlstchurch, July J7. With refcrenco to to-day's Press Association message, from Greymouth, Mr. Hiram Hunter,, secretary of tho United Federation of Labour, states emphatically that no letter has been sent by tho federation to any union on tho subject of the Military Servico Bill, nor has ho received any from the Federation of LaiTour to ask. unions whether they are in favour of a" general strike as a protest against that Bill.
