MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE CASES. There was a. short sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning, before .Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. Thsre were five first- offenders for inebriety—two wero convicted and discharged, two had their bail of 10s. each forfeited, one was fined as., -or 21 hours' imprisonment. For the same offence, Frederick J. Donaliay, alias O'D.iy, was fined 205., or three days' imprisonment. Jesse Underwood, who is a man of 72, and had been arrested for insobriety, which turned out to be a case requiring medical treatment, was ordered to pay 17s. 6d., doctor's fees. An elderly man, Alexander M"Leau, was charged with committing an indecent act in. Taxanaki Street. Air. H. F. O'Leary appeared for accused, who pleaded "guilty, and wished to be dealt with by the Magistrate. His solicitor pleaded extenuating circumstances, but His Worship held that the frequency of suoh. Among the jewellery was a diamond ring and a diamond' brooch, and the -whole of the aiticles stolen had not been recovered, hence the remand.

At the Carterton Police Court on Friday, two young men, named William Thomas Newman aad .Tames Baldwin, were oommitted to the Supreme Court for sentence on charges of breaking, entering. aJid thieving from the resisidence nf Mr. .7.
