BELGIAN RELIEF FUND
RELIEF FOR DESTITUTE CHILDREN
In connection with the efforts being mads by the school children of New Zealand to raise funds for the destitute children in Belgium, the Minister of Education, the Hon. J. A. Hanan, has received two cheques of each, one froui the Consul for Belgium at Auckland, and tho other from the Wellington Education Board, with tho request that the money be remitted to the High Commissioner with the utmost dispatch. Some time ago in a cablegram from London a statement was made that there was no need for Australasia to mako further efforts on behalf of the Belgians. .Mr. A. M. Ferguson, of Auckland, Consul for Belgium, has notified Mr. Hanan that .the statement is incorrect. Quite recently that gentleman received a cablegram from the Consul-General saying "the need for relief in Belgium is now greater than ever." This is confirmed by the information contained in letters and from other sources by the Belgian Consul in New Zeilond.
