HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Hutt Countv Council was held yesterday morning Mr. M. W. Welch presiding. The inspector of works' report stated that timber had arrived for repairs at Jud.sei'ord. and the erection of a bridge on the Palmutanui-Upper Hutt Road, and (lie work was to be done immediately. Metab had been put on many of tho roads and a number of culverts had been repaired. A petition, which had been received from ten residents at Mauihalcona, and which was addressed to the Governor, was commented ' on. and as jthere were no objections to tho transfer of their land from the county to tho Upper Hutt 'I'own District it was decided that the petition be forwarded to the Governor.' A number of Raemaker's cartoons were received and wero given to the councillors to be distributed. . .

The AVaikanae Cemetery Trustees applied for a contribution to tho fund, and on tho motion of Councillor Itovell a sum of ■£" 10s. was voted to them. Bell. Gully, Bell, and Myers mote on behalf of Mr. L. A. Chapman re damage by 'storm water from a culvert on the Motuhnra. .Road, Plimmerton, but the council decided that ihey .could accept no liability in the- matter. An application from Mesdanies Clelnnd and Yonables to bo allowed to erect fences across a disused road in Section 51, Block 9, Belmont Survey District, was refused. It was decided that tho chairman visit Wanßanui for the purpose of interviewing and Retting moro information in-regard to the liso of ltestar on roads. The Wairarapa Automobile Club wrote offering the council pistil-boards for erection at Day's Bay. 'l'hb secretary was instructed to writo thanking tho club. An application for tho removal of Hooper Bros.' Paraparaunm slaughterhouse licenso was granted. ■A. special meeting of the council, to disc tiffs tho estimates and rating, .was called for Friday, July 21.
