LIFE OF PARLIAMENT

POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION. A proposal was made to the Government in the form'of a question by Mr. \Y. Nosworthy that the Government should amend the Legislature Act by providing for the continuance of tlio House of Representatives for five years, in lieu of tlirco years, the amendment to take effect after the termination of tlio present Parliament. Tile Prime Minister has made the following reply to the question:—"The Government do not see their way. to introduce legislation this session in the direction indicated in the honourable member's question. The Government will make an announcement with regard to extending tho term of the present Parliament in case of : the war not coming to an eud in the near future."
