HUTT RIVER BOARD
At last evening's meeting of the Hutt River Board, there were present, Mr H. Baldwin (chairman), and Alessrs. Welch, Bowers, and Kennedy. The overseers report stated that the boom groyne at Soiith's property, which . was 98fv. in length, was completed at a cost of .£24 18s. 6d. The estimate in this connection was .£SO. At Specdy's, another groyne 60ft. in length had been completed, costing .£23 15s. The estimate was .£3O. Another, SBft.' in length, and-costing .£27 Bs. Gd., was also completed alxnit three chains down the river frtm Speedy's property. The estimate in connection with the last-mentioned groyne was ,£SO. An extension was completed in.the lower district, of a length of 30ft., at a cost of J512 12s. 6d., the estimate being .517 2s. A short groyne had been put in at the point of Gear Island. It was recommended in the report that the board should purchase two large hauling blocks. The river had been low nearly all tho month, rising to 3ft. on June 27, but no damage was done.
